Remote working & Free School Meals - 11/01/2021

Dear Parents and Carers,

Thank you for your support thus far with helping to get your child re-engaged and into good working routines with their remote learning over the past couple of days. As you will be aware from my previous communications, your child will receive a comprehensive package of remote learning work to complete at home next week. This will be issued via our Firefly system, and your child should log on each morning to check what tasks have been set for them and then begin working through them, and returning them as submitted work back to their teachers. It is important that where possible, our students get into the routine of working from 8.45am each morning through until at least 3.00pm each day, obviously taking occasional short breaks in between. The reason that this is requested, is that from the following week, Monday 18th January, all students will receive access at set times throughout the day to ‘live lessons’ with their teachers. We would therefore this week, like to begin by getting students into a positive routine of independently working around these times, ready for when lessons become ‘live’ the following week.

When your child logs on each day to Firefly, it is vital that students carefully read their Firefly tasks in full, before starting work. For example, in each maths Firefly task there is a video which talks students through the week’s work. This will include things like the order students should work through their HegartyMaths clips and what students need to be taking notes on.

If you or your child are having any particular problems with logging on to our systems from home, please can you contact itsupport@stockport.stockport.sch.uk for password and log-on details or alternatively Miss Holt at r.holt@stockport.stockport.sch.uk should you need support with access to technology.

Asides from remote working, we are also keen to continue to support our students whom are eligible for Free School Meals during this lockdown period. Unfortunately, the government have not yet provided information or assurance to schools on how this may be offered by way of a voucher scheme for example, or indeed financially reimbursed to schools. However, whilst we await the detail, we would like in the short term next week so that our eligible students do not go without, to offer our Free School Meal students the opportunity of collecting a grab bag containing a sandwich, drink, piece of fruit, and a snack, from school each day. If your child would like to collect one of these, they are asked to arrive via the Sandhurst Road gate and make their way direct to the dining room at the following set times. Students must however, wear a face covering when entering the school building and dining room and should keep a safe social distance of 2 metres from all others at all times. Upon collection of a grab bag, your child should then make their way home safely immediately.

Year 7: 11.20am – 11.40am
Years 8 & 9: 11.40am – 12.00pm
Year 10 & 11: 12.00pm – 12.20pm

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes and keep safe.
