GCSE Results – 2019

Well done to all of our Y11 students on achieving a terrific set of GCSE results. Despite students now studying more demanding reformed GCSEs, the quality of the grades remain strong with almost 20% of all grades awarded at the very top level of the new grades 9-7 (equivalent to A*-A), and over 51% of all grades awarded at the more challenging ‘strong pass level’ of a grade 5 or better. Across the school there were a number of notable highlights, including within the core curriculum where record results were achieved within English, Mathematics and Science, with the number of grades awarded at the very top end 9-7 almost doubling from that of last year. In the separate sciences around 50% of all grades were awarded at grades 9-7. A similar picture of success was also achieved in our Performing and Creative Arts subjects with Drama and Music in particular, achieving exceptional outcomes!

I am delighted for all of our students, and in particular those whom have overcome personal challenges to succeed, sometimes against the odds. There were also some fantastic individual successes for us to celebrate with a number of students achieving four, five and even six grade 9's a piece, topped up with the rest at grade 8! Incredible achievements to which our students should be rightly proud of.

Although exam results should and do not solely define a student or a school, I am very pleased and proud for our students, of how they have developed in terms of their character, confidence and personalities as well as their academic achievements over the past five years. Our students, their parents and all of the staff at Stockport School should be really pleased and proud.
